The number of deaths in armed clash between two rival factions in the city area of Kotla Jam, mounted to 12; as many as 17 people are still unaccounted for, media reported Saturday.

The casualties were brought to District Hospital which witnessed tension several times.

It should be mentioned here that a man was killed in a gunfire incident by a group on Thursday. The city observed strike on Friday against the killing. The businesses remained at standstill and roads wore deserted look with rallies taken out on several places.

The city developed tension once again after the funeral prayer was offered and the spate of gunshots and violence commenced, as bodies of four abductees were recovered after armed clash in Darya Khan, Kotla Jam.

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, taking notice of the flashpoint situation, directed the administration to take stringent crackdown against the miscreants.

Additional police reinforcements have been summoned from other districts keeping in view the tense and highly volatile situation in the city. The rangers troops also arrived on the spot to contain the flashpoint.

District Coordination Officer Bhakkar announced private and government educational institutes will remain close today across the district.
