There is a fair chance that the winds of change might start blowing a little too early if the government fails to avoid ending up in a blind alley it is inching into farther and farther every passing day, media reported.

“Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is on the verge of getting trapped into a dead-end street. If it doesn’t scramble out of it then it will soon be up against the wall. End of the term”, said Pakistan People’s Party leader  Qamar Zaman Kaira speaking at TV’s top-notch talk-show ‘Nadeem Malik Live’.

Suave senior anchor, Nadeem Malik, who’s known for his cool countenance and avant-garde analysis, Wednesday meticulously pitted PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Assad Umar, and PML-N’s Rana Mashhood against each other and nailed how Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif’s conclaves with Saudi royalty and Asif Ali Zardari’s bumping into US Vice President Joe Biden were somehow connected –remotely if not closely.

Speculations have it that PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari is going to be the go-between who will help avert a major political collision down the line. Zardari, as a mediator between the PML-N led government and PTI, may not look the part but has emerged as the strongest candidate for brokering some kind of understanding between the parties, which are on a collision course. Maybe Uncle Sam after conferring with its longtime ally Saudi Arabia has hand-picked him for the job. Who knows?

These eleventh hour fence-mending undertakings have come to fore as in the grand scheme of Pakistani politics, the continuation of democratic process has suddenly taken the center-stage at a time when Pakistan Army is digging deeper and deeper into one of the world’s most hostile combat zones in the lawless tribal territories as part of a grand military offensive,  Operation Zarb-e-Azb –launched against the extremist Taliban terrorists holed up in North Waziristan.

During the program, both the opposition leaders locked horns with Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashhood over the alleged manipulations in May 11, 2013 general elections.

Like always, the cliched debate with its typical ebb and flow culminated in denials and accusation; however, there was s notable difference between the body language of the leaders as while Mashhood looked as serious as a grave throughout the talk-show, Umar and Kaira cracked jokes, struck low-fives,  and punctuated their joint potshots at PML-N leader with casual laughter revealing a cozy ‘comfort level’ between the two of them.

To a question about prime minister’s 10-day long visit to the holy land and his emergent meetings with Saudi crown princes, Mashhood swore that the visit was utterly private and the meetings were absolutely personal and had nothig to do with the political crisis bearing down on Pakistan.
