MQM to Protest at Nadra Office Today (NICOP Issue)

To voice their resentment against the federal government’s alleged lack of interest in issuing the national identity card (NICOP) and passport to Altaf Hussain, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has decided to stage today (Friday) a protest in front of Nadra office at Karsaz, Shahra-e-Faisal.

Earlier, the Muttahida’s central body, Coordination Committee held a meeting over the issue and decided to stage a protest demonstration in front of Nadra office after Friday prayer.

During two hours overnight, the venue of the demonstration was thrice changed. According to the MQM sources, the venue was repeatedly changed on the plea of the Home Department as also the religious parties are set to take out rallies today after Friday prayer.

The members of the Rabta Committee demanded President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice as to why the identity card was not issued to Altaf Hussain, despite their unambiguous directions.

The Coordination Committee, in its simultaneous meetings in London and Karachi, denounced the interior ministry for deliberately creating hurdles in the issuance of the identity card to the part chief.

Talking to media after the meeting, the members of the Rabta Committee underscored that it was abundantly clear that federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan turned the NICOP issue, a matter of his ego, warning, however, that the people across the country will protest if Altaf Hussain was denied his fundamental right.

Meantime, Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Rauf Siddiqui demanded the government to sack the interior minister. In a statement, he underlined that millions of people were offended by not issuing the NICOP and passport to Altaf Hussain.
