(NA-149) Voting Underway for Multan

Voting got underway for National Assembly constituency, NA-149 Multan II, where candidates of PTI and PML-N are in neck-and-neck competition, news reported Thursday.

An open use of mobile phone was also reported in various polling stations that is violation to Election Commissionโ€™s code of conduct for election. A candidate could also be disqualified over the violation.

The voting will continue till 5pm in the evening.

Nearly 341,000 voters will exercise their right of vote. Some 286 polling stations and 778 polling booths have been set up for the polling.

There are at least 18 candidates vying for the seat that stood vacant after veteran politician Javed Hashmi tendered his resignation in Parliament on September 02 parting his ways with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

However, a tough competition is expected between Hashmi and an independent candidate, Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar. Javed Hashmi is contesting the polls with a silent support of ruling PML-N whereas Dogar is being backed by PTI.

The PPP fielded its candidate Javed Siddiqui who also claims to have massive support in the area.

Authorities have announced public holiday on the voting day to facilitate the voters to exercise their right of vote.

Section-144, which prohibits public gatherings, has been imposed for one day in the district.

More than 80 polling stations, out of 286, have been declared sensitive where Rangers will be deployed, whereas police personnel will be on security duty on other polling stations.
