Addressing weekly briefing at FO premises here, Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said the foreign secretaries of the two countries came in contact on this issue and Pakistanโ€™s mission in New Delhi also talked to Indian authorities to seek details of the attack and consular access.

Replying to a question regarding the attack on Sanaullah, a Pakistani prisoner kept in Bhalwal Jail in Indian held Kashmir, the spokesman said the gruesome manhandling seems to be in retaliation of Sarabjit Singh incident, adding he pointed out that Sarabjit was injured as a result of scuffle with his jail inmates but Sanaullah seems to be a victim of direct assault in the wake of Sarabjitโ€™s death.

Pakistan asked India to provide security to nearly 800 Pakistani prisoners jailed and other Pakistani travelers in its country.

He said Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani called up Indian High Commissioner and demanded that Sanaullah be sent home for his medical treatment.

The FO spokesman said consular access has been agreed upon in principle and Pakistan is waiting for India to identify the place where access would be given.

The spokesman said Pakistan expressed its deep concern that Sanaullah, who was serving life imprisonment in a jail in Occupied Kashmir, received grievous injuries as a result of ruthless attack on him yesterday morning.

Aizaz noted Pakistan gave Indian consular the immediate access to Sarabjit and extended full-fledged cooperation to his family; though, he killed 14 innocent Pakistanis.

Commenting on the reward announced both by Central and State Governments of India for the family of Sarabjit Singh, the spokesman said Sarabjit Singh was a terrorist who took lives of many innocent citizens in Pakistan, adding Sarabjit was awarded punishment in accordance with the laws.

However, he said, โ€œPakistan certainly hopes that India would cooperate as much as Pakistan did.โ€

He said after getting information, Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi sought immediate consular access to visit Sanaullah, who is presently in hospital in Jammu and in a critical condition.

Pakistan will issue the travel advisory for its citizens intending to go India, he added.
