Police Officer Dies in Karachi Suicide Blast

Policer officer, Shafiq Tanoli, and three others were killed in a suicide attack in Karachi, media reported. The explosion took place in a tailor’s shop near Tanoli’s residence in city’s Old Sabzi Mandi area.

“The blast killed police official Shafiq Tanoli and three others,” DSP Nasir Lodhi told media correspondent.

He said there were at least five people in the shop at the time of blast, which targeted Tanoli. The other victims were identified as Ijaz, Jalal and Daood.

About nature of the blast, an official of the Bomb Disposal Squad said it was a suicide attack that killed Shafiq Tanoli.

Head of the suspected suicide bomber was also recovered from the blast site being inspected by the BDS. Police and rescue teams shifted the dead and injured to hospitals.

The police officer was suspended last month over a raid and made Sub Inspector after demotion.

He had been facing threats from terrorists for carrying out several operations against gangsters and terrorist elements in the city. He killed over 30 terrorists including banned outfit members in six months.

Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the latest bomb attack in the city plagued for years by sectarian, ethnic and political violence.
