After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) peace march failed to reach its intended destination in South Waziristan, the party’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) chapter now wishes to arrange another march to Bara in Khyber Agency.

Talking to The Express Tribune at PTI chief Imran Khan’s book launch, Iqbal Afridi, a party leader from Khyber Agency, said unlike the previous march, this march intended to protest the military operation in the tribal areas and indiscriminate shelling by armed forces.

“More innocent people have fallen prey to shelling by security forces than drone attacks,” he maintained. Afridi also said that a delegation of leaders of the PTI’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata chapters would meet Imran Khan in order to get approval for their peace march. The PTI Khyber Agency leadership has also boycotted political administration meetings.

Rustam Shah Mohmand, another PTI leader, said that tribesmen had suffered more than anyone else in the government’s war on terror. “Thousands of tribesmen have migrated from their homes, after their businesses, educational institutions and health facilities have been destroyed,” he added. Mohmand held his party chief as a symbol of hope for tribesmen, saying he would bring real change to the tribal belt by abolishing the Frontier Crimes Regulation and ridding the country of the war on terror.
