Attorney General of Pakistan appeared before the court today and asked for an extension, as the Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khurshid Shah is currently out of country. The court, however, rejected the request saying that the leader could be contacted on phone if need be.

The bench said it will issue notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Shah for failing to honour the deadline.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till December 1.

The government and opposition were earlier confused because their common nominee for the position – Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani – had refused to accept the post after Imran Khan voiced his reservation over the choice in a public rally in Rahim Yar Khan.
