The Supreme Court (SC) has accepted the plea of former Pakistan ambassador to US Husain Haqqani for hearing, News Reported Wednesday.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry heard the appeal in his chamber today and accepted it for hearing on December 19th with the main memo case proceedings.
Haqqani on December 10 had filed an appeal with the court’s registrar, against rejection of his reply in memo scandal case.
The SC’s Registrar office returned Haqqani’s petition challenging the order on December 09. The registrar was of the opinion that the court’s order could not be recalled; it could only be reviewed.
The 3-page appeal, authored by Asma Jahangir, was filed by advocate on record Chaudhry Akhtar.
Haqqani had taken the plea in his appeal that registrar had rejected his reply illegally. It was mandate of judge and not the registrar to review any application or any reply, appeal said. Praying for withdrawal of any judicial verdict was a legal right and SC issued orders against Hussain Haqqani without hearing his stance, appeal plea further said.
From the moment the saga of the treasonous memo surfaced in Pakistan, everyone who matters in this emotionally charged country went into high gear. Was the treasonous memo scandal a well thought out plan to create a rift between the civilian and military leaders? After all the protagonist is a US citizen who is sitting miles apart and probably laughing with his cohorts over the storm they have managed to create in Pakistan. Was it created to divert Pakistan’s focus away from this dastardly act by trying to create a diversion?
