Nine-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) commenced hearing of Memogate scandal case on petitions filed by among others Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML –N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, Reports Thursday.
In previous hearing yesterday, the court directed Asma Jehangir, counsel for Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani to complete her arguments today.
Today’s case proceedings opened with her arguments.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the judiciary, having regard for the Parliament, did not remarked on its failure.
The CJ Chaudhry says, ‘My remarks were that the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has no mandate to probe the memo issue thus far.’
‘We would not have been here, had the Parliament endorsed the November 3 steps,’ he noted.
