Thatta Road Accident 23 killed Several Injured

The death tally from the tragic road accident involving a van and a passenger bus at National Highway near Thatta has mounted to 23, women and children among them, while more than a dozen incurred injuries, NEWS reports.

According to details, the incident took place near Gajjo area when a speedy passenger van, coming from Karachi, collided head-on with a Karachi-bound bus, killing more than 20 people and injuring some 13 others.

The vehicles, carrying some 90 passengers, were completely damaged in the incident which authorities said occurred due to over speeding by the two drivers.

Police, rescue teams and area people reached the accident site and pulled injured and dead bodies from the crashed vehicles. Darkness was hampering rescue efforts.

DCO Jaffar Abbasi, while confirming the death toll, told SAMAA that 23 people were received dead at District Hospital Makli, adding that 13 injured have been shifted to Gharo hospital, three of them were critical.

He said the vehicles met the tragic incident due to over-speeding, adding that the van fell into a gorge after colliding with the bus.

Medics are facing blood shortage in hospitals were emergency was declared. The civil hospital Makli also lacks many facilities for medical treatment; however, extra medical staff was called in wake of the incident.

Edhi, Cheepa and other rescue organizations sent more than 25 ambulances to shift those injured to Karachi.
