The 41-year-old was virtually declared ‘wanted’ for assaulting South African NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma, who is also the director general and CEO of the Trade, Industry & Investments of South Africa. He was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting Sharma in the Taj Mahal Hotel at around 1 am. Khan and two of his friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, were arrested but they are now out on bail.

“I have seen the interviews given on TV and they look like decent people and I cannot believe that the same people were so aggressive the night before and the lies they are saying about me with such straight faces. I think they have the CCTV footage in the restaurant that will prove everything,” said the actor.

“I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided. I don’t think any gentleman would have behaved differently,” added Khan.

The victim’s story

While Khan may be busy proving his innocence, Iqbal Sharma is giving more details on the scuffle. Apparently Khan used abusive language and threatened him by saying “You do not know who I am,” reported The Hindustan Times. When Sharma’s father-in-law intervened, Khan punched him twice on his face and stomach,” alleged Sharma. At the time, the businessman was unaware that Khan was a celebrity. “I did not that he is a Bollywood actor when the incident occurred. And I do not know if he was intoxicated then, but I can say that had he been sober, he would not have assaulted a senior citizen.”
