Former Pakistan captain Younus Khan may not find a place in the squad for the tour of England due to bitter relations with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the aftermath of his battle against the board for the indefinite ban.

According to sources in the board, PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt will force Younus’ omission when chief selector Mohsin Khan, captain Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis meet to finalise the squad on June 20 in Dambulla.

Butt, according to sources, is not happy with the statements given by Younus’ lawyer Ahmed Qayyum against the PCB after the former captain’s indefinite ban was lifted earlier this month. The chairman has also

questioned Younus’ recent performance for Pakistan which, according to him, may not make him an automatic selection for the tour of England.

“The PCB took a positive step by lifting Younus’ ban but he and his lawyer are still giving nonsense statements against the board,” Butt told The Express Tribune before adding that the former captain was not eligible for selection since he required an approval, which he said was a long process.

“Younus still needs a go-ahead from me and it’s a long process. He’s still not cleared to play for Pakistan.”

Qayyum had earlier questioned the issuance of a show-cause notice against Younus and had h

inted that they were ready to take up a legal route if needed.

“My client is innocent and hasn’t done anything wrong so why should we reply to the notice,” Qayyum had told The Express Tribune earlier. “However, if the board wants to take up a legal route again, we’re ready for it.

Our stance will be more aggressive because the PCB has no concrete evidence against Younus.”

The chairman also felt that Younus who has played 63 Tests and 202 ODIs for Pakistan is not an automatic choice for Pakistan team for England tour and hinted that the selectors might overlook him.

“I don’t want to interfere in selection matters but look at Younus’ recent performance. It hasn’t been impressive at all.

“I don’t think he remains an automatic choice for the selectors,” added Butt.
