Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain said any decision regarding the evolving situation in the wake of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s announcement of revolution today, will be made by the party’s central decision making body.

Talking to media, he urged the rulers to go home if they are unable to defuse the prevalent political standoff and indisposed to accept the rightful demands of the people.

Referring to the final call by Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain said the government should come up with a positive decision and show extreme tolerance, even if it is faced with the negative consequences.

Pointing out the Islamabad sit-in where thousands of protesters are encamped, Altaf Hussain remarked thousands of people including women with innocent infants in their laps are sitting under the open skies; but, the government is unwilling to pay heed to their demands. “The people in government also do have their daughters and sisters,” he added.

“It is 15 days that the protesters are out on foot. But, the government is absolutely indifferent to the flashpoint,” he complained and continued saying, “The government should have listened to these peaceful demonstrators. Instead, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif went to china.”

“Is there any other issue greater and grimmer present critical circumstances where people are being wounded with gunshots,” he queried.

“I salute the men and women who braved lashing downpours and scorching sun but continued working for their cause,” he added.

“At least 14 people were shot down and over 100 others were bullet-riddled. They are neither birds nor insects. Those killed were living men and women. They were the brothers, uncles, nephews and sons,” the MQM chief emphasized, citing a well-known quote that the governments cannot be run with oppression and injustices.

Responding a question, Altaf Hussain underscored that the most of Dr. Qadri’s demands are justified; if some are not, they may be discussed.

Dilating on Dr. Qadri’s demands, he was of the view that around the world, the provinces are formed in complete proportion to the population. But in Pakistan, when it comes to making of more provinces, people begin leveling charges of bigotry and provincialism, he noted.

Altaf Hussain also maintained he does not favor a democracy that is opposed to the empowerment of local bodies system.

The MQM chief said he has never seen the vehicles used by Pakistani ministers anywhere else, adding a same brand of car is used by every single minister in India.

Cautioning the government to contain its ego, Altaf pointed out that the FIR of Model Town Tragedy is not being lodged even two months after the incident, to cap it all, despite the judicial orders.
