At least 23 More Militants Mowed Down (Zarb-e-Azab Day 5)

At least 23 more terrorists including eight Uzbeks were neutralized on the fifth day of ‘Operation Zarb-e-Azab’, Pakistan Army’s major offensive against Taliban militants in North Wazirstan Agency (NWA), news reported.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations, at least 15 insurgents were killed in Zartatangi mountain heights, east of Miranshah, which was one of the main communication centers of the terrorists.

“Pakistan Army’s (Cobra) helicopter gunships zeroed in on the targets and decimated them with great precision”, the statement said.

In a separate sniper action, eight Uzbek militants were picked off around Miranshah while planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on Miranshah-Mirali road, the statement added.

Meanwhile, troops continued to cordon off areas harbouring terrorists leaving them nowhere to run, the update said.

“Troops have also successfully thwarted myriad of terrorist getaways since they laid siege to their sanctuaries”, the ISPR told media.

It added that evacuation of civil population from Miranshah and Ghulam Khan had kicked off under the supervision of army.

“Check points have been established at various places where IDPs are being provided all administrative support including food and medical care by the security forces”, the statement further said.

According to ISPR, the number of registration points at Saidgai post has been increased enhanced to 20, i.e. –10 each for males and females for speedy and organized evacuation.

“An IDP camp has been established in Bannu”, it said.
