FM Qureshi meets with Nepalese counterpart

THIMPHU: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal, Ms. Sujata Koirala here in the capital of Bhutan on the sidelines of the 16th SAARC Summit.

institutions. Foreign Minister Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen its relations with Nepal in the mutual benefit of the two countries.

He said that there were plenty of opportunities between our two countries especially in the economic area. They agreed to promote parliamentary exchanges as well as to argument people-to-people contacts.

The Foreign Minister informed the Nepalese Foreign Minister that Pakistan’s Foreign Services Academy was arranging a special course for SAARC diplomats in June this year. Pakistan would welcome young Nepalese diplomats to join this course.

Ms. Koirala welcomed the invitation stating that Nepal would very much like to avail this opportunity. She also expressed interest in receiving assistance from Pakistan in vocational training and more places for its students in educational institutions in Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Qureshi underlined the importance of convening Pakistan-Nepal Joint Economic Commission as soon as possible this year.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to make appropriate arrangements for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This would provide a good occasion for Pakistan and Nepal to explore ever-new areas for developing bilateral cooperation in their mutual benefit.
