Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced that he would launch a campaign for direct election of the Upper House in a bid to end the culture of selling and buying of MPAs.

Congratulating his coalition partners for Senate’s victory, Khan said he was glad that people of Khyber Pakhtukhwa were not let down by his MPAs. He, however, said that efforts continued throughout the day to buy his party’s MPAs.

Khan said that PTI awarded tickets to candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on merit.

“Political leaders have been making money for the last 30 years in the name of Senate,” he alleged. Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif knew that MPAs can be bought, he said.

“Asif Ali Zardari spent millions of rupees for four votes. People from Sindh were made to stand from Punjab.”

He said that FATA’s ordinance was promulgated after midnight on Wednesday because Nawaz Sharif knew that he won’t be able to secure Senate’s chairmanship.

Khan was of the view that more money would be spent on the election of Senate’s Chairman.
