Karachi Braces for MQM and PTI Protests

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which have locked horns after May 11 general elections, have set the stage for protests and counter protests in Karachi today after exchange of allegations, Media reported.

The MQM have announced world-wide protests today against Imran Khan who blamed the killing of his local party leader Zehra Shahid Hussain on MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

The MQM leader denied responsibility, condemned the killing and demanded a retraction from Khan. MQM also sue Imran Khan for Rs50 billion for defaming Altaf Hussain.

Zara was gunned down on Saturday night in Karachi, drawing strong reaction from the PTI whose candidates have secured majority of votes in Sunday’s reelection in 43 polling stations of NA-250 constituency of Karachi.

The PTI has announced that its workers would stage protest rallies across the city on Monday against the assassination of Zehra Shahid.

Placing barricades in the Red Zone, police closed all roads leading to Governor House and the Karachi Press Club in the wake of Monday’s protests by the two parties.
