A major power breakdown overnight plunged over 80 percent areas of the metropolis into the dark in Sundayโ€™s wee hours, media reported.

The sources said the main transmission line tripped suspending the power supply to the most parts of megacity. The power supply to all the government hospitals also discontinued putting the lives of critical patients at risk.

The affected areas include Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqabal, Federal B. Aarea, Liaquatabad, Saddar, Nazimabad, Airport, Nursery, Sohrab Goth, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Garden, Lasbela, and Gurumandir.

The power supply to the cityโ€™s posh areas including North Nazimabad, Defence and Clifton, ceased after high-tension line tripped.

Most areas straddling Shahra-e-Faisal also suffered at the hand of power breakdown. Also, the 90 percent area of Karachi Airport sank in the dark.

According to spokesman of K-Electric, the power supply from national grid was disrupted after a technical glitch in high-tension line spawned a major power breakdown overnight.

Talking to media K-Electric spokesman Ahmed Faraz said nearly entire city is suffering from the power failure, adding he cannot give timeframe for the restoration of the power supply.

He however assured that the repair work for the restoration, has already been jump-started.
