The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and a government team sat together for second round of negotiations late Friday night, seeking a way out from the political crunch that has called the federal capital at standstill.

Briefing the media after the talks, the PAT President Raheeq Abbasi said, “We lodged our demand with the government talks team that an FIR of Model Town Tragedy be registered,” adding the political process should necessarily progress in the country.

However, he asserted, the government does not appear to be serious to resolve the issue through dialogues, adding it was not possible for the PAT to make a retreat from its demands; hence, the talks were unlikely to make any headway until the FIR was filed.

Abbasi furthermore voiced absolute mistrust about the presence of Sharif brothers during the course of probe, if ever it started. Abbasi ruled out the transparent investigations in the presence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.

Talking to media, the PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said the PAT apprised the government team of its reservations, adding, “We want the resolution of the stalemate at the earliest.”

The PML-N leader expressed grief over Model Town Tragedy. He said the two sides were in consensus to sustain the talks. “We will meet again today,” he added.
