Though negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) seem to have already hit rock bottom; the government committee expressed willingness to file an FIR of Model Town Tragedy and start action against 19 persons nominated by aggrieved party.

Safely seated on board a truck, the government negotiations team comprising Ahsan Iqbal, Abdul Qadri Baloch, Ejaz-ul-Haq and Hyder Abbas Rizvi, held talks with the PAT leaders including Raheeq Ahmed Abbasi and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur.

Reacting to the government’s offer of ‘concessions’, the PAT President Abbasi asserted that his party could not make a retreat from its foothold based on the twin demands—dissolution of the government of Sharif brothers and conviction of the people accused in Model Town Tragedy.

Nothing short of the dissolution of the government, can set the matter right, the PAT leader added, saying, “They can accept nothing but the termination of the government.”

The PAT leaders maintained there was no harm in meaningful dialogues.

The PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal left the Inqilab March venue without any media talk; but, PAT Secretary General Gandapur voiced stark disappointment, remarking the government did not seem to be serious in the negotiations.

Unlike Gandapur, Ejaz-ul-Haq still ventured to see some ray of hope in the negotiations process, blurting out, “The matters are pregressing positively in the right direction.”

On one occasion, Abbasi mooted a question before the guest negotiators if they were scrambling to salvage democracy or the government. However, the government team were speechless with no proper answer, according to the PAT sources.

Towards the conclusion of the dialogues, the PAT leaders invited Iqbal to again show up; however, added, “There are 80 percent chances that you will not retrace your steps back here.”

“No. We will return,” was the prompt rejoinder from the guests.

Earlier during the talks, Sunni Ittehad Council Chief Hamid Raza said, “The government lodges an FIR within five minutes, if so it wills. But, it is four days after the judicial order that an FIR of Model Town Tragedy be lodged. However, the FIR could not have been registered as yet.
