Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri declined to have a meeting with the opposition’s parliamentary negotiation committee.

The government’s committee comprising Hyder Abbas Rizvi, Ejaz-ul-Haq and Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao left the venue at Khayaban-e-Suharwardi after Dr. Qadri spurned the government’s reconciliatory overture.

It should be mentioned here that the government jumpstarted into reconciliation process after the buildup of political standoff in the wake of twin marches on the federal capital by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

Earlier today, Dr. Qadri announced to hold Public Parliament at the venue of his Inqilab March sit-in at 5pm today, adding the decisions have now shifted from him and other leaders to the people.

The committee however held talks with the PAT leaders including Raheeq Abbasi and Khurram Nawaz Gandapor, who acquainted the committee with their reservations. The PAT leaders maintained that the government triggered a volley of injustices and oppressions and murder cases of the PAT workers were lodged against the PAT.

The PAT leaders also apprised the dialogue team that Minhaj-ul-Quran International had been served a tax notice of Rs.177 crore.

The negotiations team asserted, “We want the resolution of the issue. Do you want the entire cabinet to show up here for the purpose?”

The PAT high-ups responded they sought merely the implementation of resolution of All Parties Conference dated June 27 which includes the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and sacking of police officers involved in killings of PAT    workers.

It is pertinent to note here that the federal government yesterday formed two separate committees to engage the protesting PTI and the PAT in dialogues to de-escalate the hyped-up political impasse.

The second team to spearhead talks with PTI chief Imran Khan, consists of Syed Khursheed Shah, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Ghazi Gulab Jama and a member from Jamat-e-Islami.
