Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) head Altaf Hussain today urged Ulema (religious scholars) to play a role for promoting sectarian harmony, tolerance and respect for humanity.

In his telephonic address to the religious scholars and leaders at Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad, he said Islam is a liberal and moderate religion and there is no room for extremism in it.

“Targeting of worship places in the name of Islam is deplorable,” he said, calling upon the Ulema to play their role in promotion of respect for the humanity and inter-faith harmony.

Expressing concerns over the ongoing target operation in Karachi, he questioned, “If it is impartial, then why tortured bodies of any other party’s activists are not being found in the metropolis?”

Five activists of the MQM went missing during the ongoing operation and later on, three of them were found dead in the city, he added.

“It will be good if peace talks with Taliban succeed. Otherwise, we will support the army in whatever it decides in this connection,” said the MQM chief.
