By-election is scheduled to take place today (Thursday) in Multan NA149 seat, where 341,527 voters will exercise their franchise.

There are at least 18 candidates vying for the National Assembly seat that stood vacant after Javed Hashmi tendered his resignation while addressing joint session of the Parliament on September 02.

Though Hashmi is contesting the by-polls as an independent candidate, he enjoys the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Meantime, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) pledged its backing to Malik Amir Dogar.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also fielded Javed Siddiqui in the electoral arena. Election material deposited at Emerson College, has already been distributed among the polling staff.

Out of 286 polling stations made for today’s by-elections, 106 are highly sensitive. Eight companies of the rangers will stand guard at the sensitive polling stations. Also, 3,500 police personnel will be on security duty.

The constituency boasts of at least 185,862 male voters along with 155,666 female voters.

Citizens maintained they will cast their votes in favor of the candidate who can empathize with the masses suffering manifold problems.
